HUNTSVILLE – Huntsville Hospital, an organization accustomed to celebrating progress and growth, held a ribbon-cutting for the opening of the North Alabama Specialty Hospital.

Hospital and community officials, including Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle and Madison County Commission Chair Mac McCutcheon, attended the ceremony in christening the long-term acute care facility on Governors Drive. It was formerly located at the Athens-Limestone Hospital.

The ongoing population growth across the region, including making Huntsville the largest city in the state, has prompted the hospital system to continue expanding and improving its healthcare options. Moving the spacious facility to the Rocket City will help to serve more patients.

“As we know Alabama, especially north Alabama, is seeing exponential growth and prosperity,” COO and President Tracy Doughty said. “This building is one example of how Huntsville Hospital always steps up to the needs of our community by creating this long-term acute care hospital.”

The new hospital relocated into what was formerly Encompass, which built a facility near Chapman Mountain on U.S. 72. The Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of North Alabama is now at 1490 Highway 72 East.
