Huntsville Parks & Recreation hosts MLK Youth Basketball Clinic & Canned Food Drive

HUNTSVILLE — Young athletes looking to sharpen their basketball skills while giving back to the community are invited to sign up for next weekend’s Huntsville Parks & Recreation’s MLK Youth Basketball Clinic.

The free clinic is Feb. 23, from 1-4 p.m. at Optimist Recreation Center, 703 Oakwood Ave. Led by experienced coaches, the clinic is open to boys and girls ages 8-13.

Inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy, the clinic seeks to engage and uplift youth through the spirit of sportsmanship. It also aims to provide an inclusive environment for skill development while encouraging a sense of community.

“This clinic is about more than just basketball — it’s about teamwork, leadership and service,” said James Gossett, Director of Huntsville Parks & Recreation. “We’re creating a space where young athletes can grow both on and off the court.”

A canned food donation is requested but not required. Donated items will go to the Food Bank of North Alabama.

In addition to working one-on-one with players, coaches will focus on team-building exercises and the importance of fair play. This event is open to all skill levels. To ensure that players receive adequate instruction, the clinic will accept the first 75 boys and girls who register.

Parents and guardians can register online here.
