Huntsville Public Works playing catchup on garbage collection

HUNTSVILLE – Last week’s weather event continues to be felt for residents in the Tennessee Valley as flash floods and other collateral dangers are worth keeping an eye on this week.

There’s also inconveniences, including possible delays in garbage collection in Huntsville and elsewhere around the area.

Huntsville Public Works Director Chris McNeese said his department is committed to restoring service promptly and appreciates the community’s cooperation during this period of extended delays.

“We apologize for the inconvenience, and we ask for continued patience as we work through these challenges,” he said. “We ask residents to leave their cans at the curb, and we will collect them as soon as possible.’’

While the City of Huntsville Public Works is working to get caught up on trash pickup, homes at higher elevations could experience delays into later in the week as crews work Friday and Saturday to collect routes missed due to icy roads.

Because of this, for this week only, the city is allowing residents to place overflow bags next to their garbage cans for collection. Bags should weigh less than 50 pounds.
