HUNTSVILLE – In a move to upgrade the technology while offering safety in extreme weather, Huntsville Utilities cut the ribbon Tuesday for a state-of-the-art systems operations center.

The center is structurally designed to withstand extreme weather conditions, including strong tornadoes, and has multi-system redundancy to minimize downtime, officials said.

“This facility represents a major step forward in ensuring reliable service for our customers, no matter the conditions,” said Huntsville Utilities President and CEO Wes Kelley.

The 25,000-square-foot facility at 1145 Jordan Road utilizes cutting edge technology that allows system operators to monitor electric, water, and natural gas distribution in the service area, quickly dispatching crews to make repairs as needed, officials said.

Construction began in December 2024 and was completed last month.

Huntsville Utilities is a not-for-profit, public utility owned by the city of Huntsville,  serving the residents of Huntsville and Madison County.

The utility currently has approximately 233,000 electric, 110,000 water, and 65,000 natural gas customers.
