Two Huntsville Utilities water treatment facilities have been recognized for excellence in water quality and operations, earning Water Treatment Plant of the Year awards from the Alabama-Mississippi Section of the American Water Works Association.

Huntsville Utilities announced that its Lincoln-Dallas and South Parkway water treatment plants received the awards, which recognize facilities that demonstrate outstanding performance in regulatory compliance, water quality, operational excellence, safety and innovation.

The Alabama-Mississippi Section of the American Water Works Association presents the annual awards to treatment plants that maintain high standards in drinking water production and system management. According to the organization, award winners are evaluated on factors including regulatory compliance, operational proficiency, personnel training, safety practices and innovative approaches to delivering safe drinking water.

“We want to congratulate the hardworking men and women of our Lincoln-Dallas and South Parkway Water Treatment Plants for earning Water Treatment Plant of the Year Awards,” Huntsville Utilities said in announcing the recognition.

The utility noted that the awards recognize excellence in regulatory compliance, overall water quality, operational records, professionalism, safety and innovation.

Huntsville Utilities supplies drinking water to approximately 100,000 customers across its service area through a combination of surface water and groundwater sources. The utility’s water treatment facilities operate around the clock, with state-certified operators monitoring water quality 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

According to Huntsville Utilities, operators must be certified by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management and complete extensive training and testing requirements before they are qualified to operate a treatment facility.

The recognition highlights the critical role water treatment personnel play in ensuring safe and reliable drinking water for residents and businesses throughout the Huntsville area.

The Alabama-Mississippi Section of the American Water Works Association is a professional organization dedicated to advancing the management and protection of drinking water systems across both states.
