Nanoracks, a Voyager Space Holdings company, will soon open its first office in the Yellowhammer State. Its new location at Huntsville’s Lincoln Mills will work with existing industry to provide payload operation and deployment services on the international space station as well as commercial space stations.
The aerospace company, which was founded in 2009, operates multiple locations nationally and globally. The Nanoracks footprint includes offices in Houston, Washington, D.C., Italy, and the United Arab Emirates.
The company says it chose to expand its operations to the Rocket City due to its proximity to the Marshall Space Flight Center and Huntsville’s space industry. Nanoracks also cited North Alabama’s talent-rich workforce as a driving factor in its decision.
Marshall Smith, Nanoracks senior vice president of Commercial Space Stations, told Yellowhammer News that the company will work alongside industry to build and develop new space stations.
“We’ll be working with all the space industry that’s in the area as well as across the nation to develop assets in space that can further commercial goals,” said Smith. “It’s very important for us to be near centers of space activity and Huntsville and the Marshall Space Flight Center are exactly that. Whenever the Nanoracks team was looking for the most appropriate place to expand operations and be able to bring in talent to look at the future of the company and to be able to engage with potential partners and customers, Huntsville just made a really great case.”
The aerospace company provides solutions for satellite deployment, basic and educational research, and more – in over 30 nations worldwide. The company says its future goals are focused on the re-purposing of the upper stages of launch vehicles in space and converting these structures into commercial habitats, both humanly and robotically tended, throughout the solar system.
Nanoracks adds to the Rocket City’s robust and ever-expanding space industry. The company told Yellowhammer News that it is in the beginning stages of opening its Huntsville office as it prepares to ramp up operations and partner with North Alabama industry.
