The Junior League of Huntsville will award $32,000 in grants to nine local nonprofit organizations through its Community Assistance grant program tonight, April 9, during the fourth annual Book Ball at the Huntsville Museum of Art.

$6,000 will be awarded to the AUM Foundation; $3,000 to the Cap and Gown Project; $2,500 to Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater and Academy; $2,000 to Girls, Inc. of Huntsville; $5,500 to the Huntsville Hospital Foundation supporting BIRTHday Books; $3,000 to the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library Foundation; $2,000 to Therapy Partners; $5,000 to the UAH Foundation; and $3,000 will be donated to Village of Promise.

“We are extremely proud to award these worthy organizations,” said Kristina Hendrix, League president. “We chose these nonprofits because they are fulfilling a need in our community tied directly to our League’s focus area of literacy.”

Hendrix explained that for the past three years, the Book Ball has been a glamorous evening of raising money to support community projects, but this year they decided to pair their community assistance grant announcement with the ball so members and the community could share in the celebration.

Every year, the Junior League of Huntsville accepts community assistance grant applications from Huntsville and Madison County nonprofits. The organizations are selected through a rigorous review process by the League’s board of directors.

The Junior League of Huntsville has donated more than $2 million dollars back to the community through this program over its 73-year history.
