‘Legacy of the Invisible’ art event rescheduled due to weather concerns

HUNTSVILLE — Art enthusiasts in Huntsville may have to wait a bit longer than originally planned but will soon have the opportunity to view a piece of work that celebrates the city’s rich heritage in astrophysics.

Due to anticipated rainy weather conditions, the “Legacy of the Invisible” event, scheduled for Friday, has been rescheduled by Downtown Huntsville Inc. for Aug. 16. The artistic production, depicting a neutron star merger, was funded by the Jacobs Space Exploration Group and managed by Arts Huntsville in conjunction with NASA Marshall Space Flight Center.

The event celebrates Huntsville’s newest art installation, “No Straight Lines,”
which pays tribute to Huntsville’s rich scientific legacy in astrophysics. The phenomenon shown in the work was discovered Aug. 17, 2017.

“We are excited to celebrate the incredible contributions of Huntsville’s scientific community through this new public artwork,” said Rob Buddo, president and CEO of DHI. “We are delighted that despite the weather necessitating a schedule change, the rescheduled event on August 16 falls perfectly in time to celebrate the seven-year anniversary of the event that inspired the art.”

Attendees will have the chance to hear remarks from NASA scientists and Arts Huntsville.

Additionally, a downtown Art Walk will begin at 5 p.m. The Walk is a free event featuring music, yard games, kid-friendly activities, and more than 50 local vendors in open entertainment districts.
