MADISON — Residents in Madison had the opportunity to meet and talk with municipal candidates Sunday at the Let’s Vote Madison event. The free, non-partisan event took place at Old Black Bear in downtown and featured a dozen candidates.

“Today’s really all about the city of Madison,” said David Bier, a candidate for Madison City Council District 2. “What we want to do is engage with voters and engage with people in the community.”
Bier, who announced his candidacy in February, said the best part of the process has been meeting fellow residents and hearing their concerns.
“I’ve had 120-plus meetings with different folks just learning different perspectives,” said Bier. “What do they think, what do I think, what do they think is important? What can we actually do about it? What are the rules and guidelines?
“It’s been the best part of this by far.”
Formerly Rock the Vote, this year’s Let’s Vote Madison was hosted by the Committee of 100 Young Professionals.
“Today is about civic engagement and community connection,” said Brook Shaughnessy, Let’s Vote Madison co-chair. “You know, our goal is to get all of the city of Madison out to really learn more about their districts and to have the opportunity to meet candidates that are representing their districts as we come to Aug. 26.”
Madison residents will go to the polls to elect seven City Council members and a mayor Aug. 26.
