Madison Academy to celebrate late Matt Clouser with stadium remembrance

HUNTSVILLE – The family of Matt Clouser, former head football coach at Madison Academy and former interim head football coach at Grissom High School, are hosting a “Friday Night Lights” Celebration of Life Ceremony from 6:30–8:30 p.m Friday at the Mustangs’ Bill Washington Stadium.

Clouser died last Friday at his Huntsville home surrounded by family and friends following an illness. He was 62.

“Please join us on the sidelines of Bill Washington Stadium where Coach Matt shared so much of his life with so many,” the family wrote. “Come help us celebrate his ultimate victory of eternal life. Stop by in casual attire for a hot dog, a cold Dr Pepper, and share a memory and hug as we celebrate a life well lived of someone who touched so many lives in such a profound way.”

Clouser is survived by his wife of 39 years, Kim Carpenter Clouser; four children and three grandchildren among many family members.

“He was a great father, husband and brother,” his younger brother, Mark, posted on Facebook. “We will miss you and always have you in our memories.”

Clouser coached the Mustangs from 2004-09. During his five-year tenure the Mustangs produced five winning seasons, four playoff appearances and one regional title. He was named interim head coach at Grissom during the 2011 season.

A graduate of Madison Academy, he played football for Harding University in Searcy, Ark., and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in sports management. After graduation, he returned to Huntsville and joined the family business and ultimately became the sole proprietor of Dixieland Wholesale.

Clouser grew up in the small country congregation of Glover’s Chapel in the Owen Cross Roads area. He was a member of the Monrovia Church of Christ for many years, and at the time of his death, was a member of Mayfair Church of Christ.

Prior to the “Friday Night Lights” remembrance, services will be held at Owen Cross Roads Church of Christ, 124 Eastwood Drive. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m., immediately followed by a funeral service. A private interment for immediate family will follow at Moon Cemetery.
