Madison begins annual street sweeping program

MADISON — The city of Madison will make a clean sweep of things for the next six weeks.
That is, the streets will be swept clean.
Beginning Wednesday, street sweeping will begin on all curb and gutter streets in the city.
Sweeping will begin in the southeast quadrant of the city (Zierdt Road and Shelton Road area) and move northwest. Weather permitting; the street sweeping will be completed in approximately six weeks.
Residents should refrain from parking on or placing any items in the streets between the hours of 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.
A few reminders:
  • Yard debris, trash receptacles and recycling carts should be placed directly behind the curb for weekly pick-up.
  • Do not throw debris in front of the sweeping crews.
  • Do not blow leaves into the street.
  • Shrubs, tree branches and large piles of leaves can damage the sweeper.
  • Please bring trash receptacles in after collection to alleviate the obstruction in the street.
This is a one-time annual sweep, and the street sweeper will drive around any blockage within the street and will not return to re-sweep.
The street sweeping program is aimed at improving the quality of storm water runoff by removing contaminants from the street before they can enter the storm system.
