HUNTSVILLE — Madison Core Laboratories has appointed a seasoned financial executive as its new chief financial officer, the company announced.

Jerry C. Smith brings more than 25 years of experience in finance, accounting, and revenue cycle management. He also has a background in mergers and acquisitions in multiple sectors of the health care and technology industries.

“Jerry’s deep and extensive experience in leading the financial operations of healthcare businesses, and knowledge of complex revenue cycle management make him a great fit,” said MCL CEO Dr. Carlo Crespo. “His proven track record of driving revenue growth will be instrumental as we continue to position the company for the future.”

He most recently served as interim CFO of Legacy Hospice. From 2013-2021, Smith was CFO of early-stage, rapid-growth MedWorksRx. That company developed into Proxsys Rx, a comprehensive outpatient pharmacy solution for health care organizations.

Smith was CFO at Proxsys, a provider of cloud-based business services for physician practices and hospitals, from 2009-11. He continued with the company under Athenahealth ownership as its vice president of finance. Smith later served as director of enterprise strategy dealing with physicians and hospitals for revenue management solutions.

Smith’s healthcare experience also includes serving in multiple executive positions with St. Vincent’s Health System and he was senior vice president/CFO at USA Healthcare.

Smith holds a bachelor of science cum laude in accounting from Samford University in Birmingham and is a certified public accountant.

Madison Core Laboratories recently expanded its presence in Huntsville with an office at the HudsonAlpha Institute of Biotechnology. There, the company is developing diagnostic tests in the areas of neuroscience, oncology and women’s health.
