For people looking for work in Huntsville, engineering and technology account for a sizable share of the opportunities employers are advertising.
Nearly four in 10 new job postings in the city were in those fields during the second quarter of 2026, giving Huntsville the highest percentage among the 67 U.S. cities tracked by job platform JobLeads.
Engineering and IT roles made up 38% of Huntsville’s new postings from April through June. The next-closest city was Boise, Idaho, at 26.5%.
Huntsville also led the cities tracked in each category individually. Engineering accounted for 20.1% of new postings, while IT and technology represented 18%.
“Nearly two in five new job postings in Huntsville are for engineering or IT roles, more than in any other US city we track,” said Ricardo Meneses Flores, content and insights data analyst at JobLeads.
Together, the two fields accounted for more than 13,000 postings in Huntsville during the quarter — 6,943 in engineering and 6,224 in IT.
Huntsville had more postings in both fields than Nashville, even though Nashville had more than twice as many job postings overall. Nashville recorded 5,828 engineering postings and 6,067 IT postings among its 79,512 total listings.
Both fields also grew in Huntsville. Engineering postings increased 12% from the previous quarter, while IT postings rose 4.8%.
For local job seekers, the numbers show how much of Huntsville’s hiring activity is concentrated in those two fields. They also offer students and people considering a career change a look at the types of work employers are seeking to fill.
Across all industries, JobLeads counted 34,579 new Huntsville job postings in the second quarter, up 9.2% from 31,671 in the first quarter.
For those hoping to work from home, the picture is different.
JobLeads’ latest work-setting figures show 88% of Huntsville postings were fully on-site, the third-highest share among the U.S. cities tracked. Only 6.2% were remote, compared with 10.6% in Nashville and 11% in Atlanta.
Those figures cover all industries during the first quarter of 2026, an earlier period than the engineering and technology numbers. For job seekers, they are a reminder to check where the work will take place along with what the position requires.
The JobLeads Job Index tracks 98 cities worldwide using more than 400,000 company career pages and other job sources, removing duplicate postings before counting them. The figures measure postings rather than hires, and JobLeads says its coverage grows as it adds sources.
