HUNTSVILLE — She’s not quite a “grand ol’ flag,” but the flag of the newest branch of the U.S. military will be flying high in Huntsville, thanks to the Madison County Commission.

To help kick off Veterans Week, Commission Chairman Dale Strong presented a $100,000 check for the installation of the U.S. Space Force flag at the Huntsville Madison County Veterans Memorial in downtown Huntsville.

“It is an honor to support the Veterans Memorial and our U.S. Space Force,” Strong said. “The U.SSpace Force is a critical part of our national defenseand we need to recognize that in this memorial.”

The memorial features flags from each of the armed services but was built before the creation of the Space Force

The Space Force is the space service branch of the Armed Forces and is the world’s only independent space force.
