Madison County Commissioner Violet Edwards is inviting residents to help shape the future of the Bob Harrison Senior Wellness and Advocacy Center campus by hosting two public listening sessions Thursday, Jan. 15, at the center.
The sessions will be held at 11 a.m. and again at 5:30 p.m. at the Bob Harrison Center, located at 6156 Pulaski Pike. Community members are encouraged to attend and share ideas on how the 21-acre campus and surrounding greenspace can be preserved and improved.

Madison County has hired engineering and planning firm Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood to develop a master plan for the property. Representatives from GMC will be on hand during the sessions to hear feedback that will help guide planning, design and long-term improvements to the site.
The engagement process will focus on potential outdoor amenities residents would like to see added to the campus, including options such as basketball courts, event pavilions and additional recreational features.
“Hearing ideas from the community members that enjoy the current amenities at the Harrison Center and learning more about what they’d like the center to offer are our top priorities as we begin planning for its renovation,” Edwards said. “This center is an exciting investment in our neighborhood and our residents’ future, and we look forward to creating a space that allows for comfort, accessibility and connection in our community.”
The Bob Harrison Senior Wellness and Advocacy Center serves seniors across northwest Huntsville and is dedicated to holistic health, offering opportunities for physical activity, social connection and community engagement. Current amenities include an indoor pool, fitness center, walking track, a 160-seat event room and a wide range of programs focused on fitness, nutrition, arts and crafts and social activities.
The center opened in 2013 and was envisioned by former Madison County Commissioner Bob Harrison, who represented District 6. Since opening, it has served as a hub for senior wellness and advocacy, providing both daily programming and rental spaces for community events.
Community feedback gathered during Thursday’s listening sessions will play a key role in shaping the center’s next phase of development.
