Polar Express pulls into downtown Madison this weekend

MADISON – All aboard!

The Madison Polar Express Christmas Trees & Wassail Fest on Main pulls into historic downtown Madison train station Friday. The event from 5:30-7 p.m. brings the harmonious spirit of Christmas to Madison.

Sponsored by the Madison Station Historic Preservation Society, historic downtown Madison will resound in full Christmas regalia with holiday lights, plenty of music, elaborately decorated Christmas trees, hot chocolate, and Santa Claus.

The Children’s Lantern Parade, sponsored by the Madison Arts Council, gets the festivities started. There will be Christmas music from the Madison City Community Orchestra and hot chocolate and cookies sponsored by Rotary Club of Madison.

At 6 p.m. there will be a reading of “The Polar Express” by the Madison Public Library. Then, at 6:15, Mayor Paul Finley will light the 2022 Polar Express Christmas Tree Trail.

The second annual Wassail Fest, sponsored by the Madison Downtown Merchants, begins at 6:20. It will be easy to get into the Christmas spirit as Madison downtown merchants serve their favorite wassail recipe while asking you to vote for your favorite at the end of the evening.

At 6:30, visits with Santa begin in the Madison Silver Ornament, sponsored by Madison Visionary Partners.

Free and open to the public, the Polar Express is certain to be “… the most beautiful-est, most wonderful-est Christmas ever,” according to Sister Sarah from the beloved book by Chris Van Allsburg.
