As Independence Day approaches, the Florence Police Department is reminding residents that consumer fireworks are only permitted during specific dates and hours under the city’s ordinance.

The reminder comes as families prepare to celebrate the Fourth of July and America’s 250th birthday.

Under the ordinance, fireworks may be discharged from June 20 through July 10 between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. On July 4, the permitted hours are extended until 11 p.m.

“We know many families enjoy celebrating the Fourth of July with fireworks,” the department said. “If you plan to light them up, please remember these important city ordinances.”

The department closed its reminder by encouraging residents to celebrate safely, writing, “Let’s celebrate America’s 250th birthday responsibly so everyone can celebrate safely!”
