Madison welcomes Smith as facilities director

MADISON – Not only is the City of Madison excited about welcoming Gerald Smith as the city’s facilities director, but the fact that he is the first facilities director for Madison.

In just another example of Madison’s burgeoning growth, Smith rides in on a newly created position to better maintain and maximize city facilities.

“As Madison grows, our municipality is acquiring more facilities for our community and employees,” said Mayor Paul Finley. “Mr. Smith will serve as an essential team member, especially with the addition of the community center, Hexagon complex and Sunshine Oaks.”

Smith comes to Madison from Teledyne Brown Engineering where he was facilities manager for 22 years. He also performed machine maintenance and managed operational systems at TBE.

“We are excited to use his experience and skill set to provide excellent services to support our quality of life in Madison,” said Finley.

Smith is already off and running at the city, managing building work orders, performing inspections, and supervising proper maintenance and repairs.

“I am eager to establish my rapport with the City of Madison and support the daily functions of City facility systems,” said Smith. “My professional background in project management and maintenance capacities will be a significant contribution to the Madison community.”

Ultimately, he will ensure a strategic plan is in place for maintaining the City’s real estate portfolio, improve service, and eliminate foreseeable issues.
