FLORENCE – It’s not yet determined if James Spann will be wearing his trademark suspenders, but the state’s most popular meteorologist will take the stage this weekend at the University of North Alabama.

Spann, also an author and podcaster, is speaking Saturday at 1 p.m. at UNA’s Norton Auditorium. His appearance is through the UNA College of Arts, Sciences, and Engineering Sunseri Speaker Series.

“It is a pleasure to continue to elevate the guests we bring to campus as part of the Sunseri Speaker Series,” said Dr. Ryan Zayac, dean of the college. “Mr. Spann brings a wealth of knowledge based on his many years as Alabama’s most beloved meteorologist, and we welcome his insights, anecdotes, and witticisms.”

While Spann is a meteorologist and media personality, as a creative, he is also known for his writing, which he ties to his knowledge of meteorology in his children’s book and autobiography.

He is also a host for the “Weather Brains” podcast, which has more than 1,000 episodes. Most recently, he launched the Alabama Weather Network, a 24/7 weather resource that focuses on all of Alabama.

This annual Sunseri Speaker Series event is included as part of UNA’s Family Weekend. There will be a short reception and meet-and-greet afterward in the Norton Auditorium lobby. It is free and open to the public.

The Sunseri Speaker Series is made possible through a donation from alumnus David Sunseri, who sponsored the series to honor his late sister, Jennifer Leigh Sunseri. The annual series integrates arts and creativity with the sciences to drive innovation.
