HUNTSVILLE – If you are over 40, the world has changed since you were in school, but the desire to keep learning new things is as strong as ever.
Huntsville’s LearningQUEST has partnered with the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library to build a lifelong learning community for adults of all ages through local educational and enrichment opportunities.
LearningQUEST is a community of presenters, participants, leaders, organizers, and behind-the-scenes workers who are naturally curious about the world around them and who enjoy creating a learning experience that brings together others with similar interests in a variety of topics.
Offering two terms of programs per year, LearningQUEST has a soft kick off for the fall term (July through December) July 1, at which time participants can download the fall 2022 online catalog and register for classes.
That is followed with a live “Rally Day,” open to the public July 12 at the Huntsville Jaycees Community Building in John Hunt Park.
According to Darryl Palm, operations manager for LearningQUEST, a table of volunteers will hand out copies of the program catalog and help visitors register for classes.
“People can meet the instructors and get answers to any questions they may have about the LearningQUEST experience,” said Palm. “While Rally Day is a chance for people to come out and explore and find opportunities for enrichment, it is also a fun day with a Tai Chi demonstration and a Zumba class, as well as snacks and a popcorn machine.”
Most of LearningQUEST’s programs are held during the day at the downtown library’s meeting facilities, but off-site locations are used when needed.
Some of the curricula from the spring term offered classes on music, poetry, Shakespeare, fitness, dance, cooking, travel, and wine. There are opportunities to learn a language; find out more about history including the Civil War and the evolution of the airlines; or experience what it is like to be in a courtroom during a jury trial.
The classes also include trips, tours and excursions on a variety of topics such as a Rocket City Trash Pandas baseball game or taking a tour of the Marshall Space Flight Center.
While most classes do not require participants to be members of LearningQUEST, a handful of special interest programs may require membership.
The fall catalog online here, is available July 1.
