Community Action Partnership of North Alabama (CAPNA) and Republic Services are partnering to complete construction of the Neighborhood Promise Training Center, a new facility designed to provide hands-on education and resources for aspiring and current homeowners in the Decatur area.

The project is made possible through a $160,000 National Neighborhood Promise® grant from the Republic Services Charitable Foundation. Once complete, the training center will serve as a homeowner empowerment hub, offering workshops and practical training aimed at strengthening long-term housing stability and financial success for individuals and families across the Decatur Metropolitan Area.

Modeled after a single-family home, the center has been transformed into an immersive learning environment with purpose-built spaces for hands-on instruction in common home maintenance and repair tasks. One of the facility’s standout features is a bathroom outfitted with multiple toilets and sinks, allowing several participants to simultaneously receive instruction on basic plumbing skills.

The Neighborhood Promise Training Center will expand CAPNA’s existing housing and financial education programs, including First-Time Homebuyer Education, Rent Smart, and Home Maintenance and Repair workshops. Leaders say the center will provide participants with practical tools to better care for their homes, reduce costly repairs, and build confidence as homeowners.

The project reflects a shared investment by CAPNA and Republic Services in addressing the root causes and long-term impacts of poverty by promoting financial education, safe and stable housing, and opportunities for families to build resilience and plan for the future.

A volunteer service day to help finalize construction at the site is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 3, bringing together CAPNA team members, Republic Services volunteers, and local leaders to support the completion of the center, located at 1909 Central Parkway SW in Decatur.

CAPNA is a nonprofit organization serving North Alabama through programs and partnerships designed to help individuals and families build a strong and resilient future. The Republic Services Charitable Foundation supports sustainable neighborhoods through volunteerism, financial contributions, and community partnerships nationwide.
