HUNTSVILLE – Live from UAH, it’s the North Alabama Walk to Defeat ALS!
The annual benefit for The ALS Association returns in person Saturday at 10 a.m. The Walk to Defeat ALS is The ALS Association’s signature event in which all funds directly support cutting-edge research, programs, and patient care. Last year’s virtual event raised more than $110,000.
ALS, often called Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a progressive motor neuron disease, which gradually robs people of their ability to walk, talk, swallow, and eventually breathe. ALS has no known cause or cure, but the North Alabama community is rallying together to do whatever it takes to change that.
One of those participating in this year’s event is Bill Stallings, who was diagnosed with ALS in August 2021.
“After eight months of going back and forth to many doctors, I was finally diagnosed with ALS in August 2021,” he said. “I was devastated. A week later, we were at the ALS clinic in Huntsville. There, my wife and I found the most genuinely caring people.
“I’m so thankful to have them to help guide us through this journey.”
Participants can register for the walk at http://donate.al.als.org/northalabama or call 256-937-2552. All registered participants who raise $90 or more receive a commemorative t-shirt.
Supporters who register or make donations online are not required to attend.
