Local leaders were shocked at the news of Huntsville City Councilman Devyn Keith’s shoplifting arrest. Keith has drawn praise for his work for north Huntsville from across the political spectrum. With a Master’s Degree from UMass on his resume it’s widely known that the Councilman could make big dollars in corporate life yet chose public service. That’s why most local observers are withholding judgement until all the facts are in so stay tuned.

Now that the former Speaker of the Alabama House of Representatives, Mac McCutcheon, has been appointed Madison County Chairman, attention turns to the 2024 election and whether he will seek a full elected term. Part of that may depend on who else might want to test the waters. We may get clues soon on this race as other possible candidates can start raising money for the 2024 Republican Primary exactly one month from today.

TVA Board rolling into Florence
The TVA Board will meet in Florence on February 16. This is its meeting since the Christmas rolling blackouts so expect many of the comments at the the Public Listening Session to be particularly pointed.
Following his footsteps
Announced this week, U.S. Sen. Katie Britt has been named to serve on three committees, including the powerful Appropriations Committee. She should be well prepared, her former boss, Senator Richard Shelby, was the masterful chair of the commanding committee that oversees US defense and space contracts. Shelby served as a US Senator for nearly four decades, being first elected at 53-years of age. Britt is 41.
