HIGH POINT, N.C. – Closing in on three months into the season, the Huntsville City Football Club finally put up a win, a 4-1 comeback victory punctuated with four straight second-half goals.
Relief coursed through the Boys in Blue after spoiling the debut of Carolina Core FC’s Truist Park. A sellout crowd looked on as Huntsville City FC (1-7-3-0, 6 pts.) doubled its 2024 point total by defeating Carolina Core FC (1-6-2-1, W-6L-2D, 7 pts.) ahead of a home game this week.
“It was a long time coming, but credit the guys, you know, it’s difficult sometimes,” HCFC interim head coach Christophe Berra said. “You don’t win so many games, you start to not believe in the process.”
HCFC was coming off a 5-0 road loss at Orlando.
“Last week against Orlando was an off day,” Berra said. “We played as individuals and not as a team, but (Saturday) we played more as a team and the guys showed great character going one behind to come back and really have a convincing win. So all credit to the players.”
Saturday’s match was tied 0-0 at halftime, and Carolina took a 1-0 lead early in the second half.
But HCFC got following goals by Forster Ajago (56th minute), Tyler Pasnik (64th minute) and two that iced it from Adem Sipić.
“When you win games you need to enjoy it and, you know, it’s a weight off everyone’s shoulders,” Berra said. “It’s just the start. We need to move on. We need to keep on improving as individuals on the team and go to the next game.”
The Boys in Blue will be back in action Saturday against Crown Legacy FC at 7 p.m. at Wicks Family Field at Joe Davis Stadium. Tickets to the match can be purchased here.
