HARTSELLE — The Parker Road bridge over I-65 near Hartselle is scheduled to close Thursday at noon as part of a project to raise the bridge structure, the Alabama Department of Transportation said.

Crews will elevate the bridge 13 inches to achieve a 17-foot clearance over I-65. The closure is expected to last about six weeks, and motorists should use alternate routes during that time.

The bridge-raising is part of a $16.5 million resurfacing project on I-65 in Morgan County. The Parker Road bridge is one of two overpasses included in the raising effort.

The other, on Upper River Road at I-65 in Priceville, was raised last week. Leveling work continues on the approaches of Upper River Road to the bridge.

ALDOT expects the bridge to remain closed until about Aug. 7, reopening just before the start of the school year.
