Time is running out for Huntsville residents who want to vote in the Aug. 25 municipal election, with the voter registration deadline less than a week away and absentee voting already underway.

Residents must register to vote by Monday, Aug. 10, to be eligible to cast a ballot in the election.

Three Huntsville City Council seats will be on the ballot, representing Districts 2, 3 and 4, along with Huntsville City Schools Board of Education seats in Districts 2 and 3.

The District 4 school board race will not appear on the ballot after incumbent Ryan Renaud was the only candidate to qualify. His reelection was declared by a vote of the Huntsville City Council.

Voter registration is handled through the Alabama Secretary of State’s Office. Residents can register online, request a registration form by mail or verify their current registration status through the Secretary of State’s website. Completed registration forms must be submitted to the appropriate county board of registrars or mailed to the Secretary of State’s Elections Division.

Absentee voting is also in progress for registered voters who qualify. Applications for absentee ballots by mail must be submitted by Aug. 18, while in-person absentee ballot applications are due by Aug. 20. The deadline to apply for an emergency absentee ballot is Aug. 24.

Completed absentee ballots must be postmarked by Aug. 24 and received by noon on Aug. 25. 

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day, Aug. 25.
