HUNTSVILLE – The Board of Directors of the Port of Huntsville approved the expansion of the Huntsville International Airport parking facilities at its monthly meeting today.
According to a news release, the $57 million project will add more than 1,400 parking spaces to the existing parking deck, which can currently hold 2,394 vehicles, .
“As our community grows, it’s more important than ever for the airport to meet increasing demand by seeking to expand air service and enhancing amenities,” said Joey Ceci, board chair for the Port of Huntsville. “This ensures that we continue to deliver the convenience and exceptional service our passengers expect.”
Construction on the parking deck expansion is expected to begin before year’s end and will take two years to complete. Robins & Morton is the building contractor; KPS has provided design services.
During the build phase, customers can expect changes in traffic patterns around the construction zone, adjacent to the inbound side of Glenn Hearn Boulevard.
“We’re excited that growing demand to fly through HSV has given us the opportunity to expand with a larger parking deck,” said Butch Roberts, CEO of Huntsville International Airport. “Our business travelers especially enjoy the short walk from a covered parking space to the terminal.”
Huntsville International has achieved record-breaking passenger traffic for two consecutive years (2023 and 2024), and eight of the first nine months of 2025 exceeded passenger numbers from the same months in 2024.
The expanded parking deck will be six stories tall to match the existing deck and will increase total deck parking to more than 5,400 spaces. The entry plaza will be reconfigured into two separate plazas, one for deck parking and one for surface parking.
“Long term, I think it’s going to make traffic flow much better,” Roberts said. “Wayfinding is going to be improved, and obviously, there is more parking available for our customers.”
