HUNTSVILLE — After a hot and sunny day, the rush hour drive home today may be a little wet. And there’s an even greater chance of rain and possible storms tonight.
All this is thanks to an incoming cold front, according to the National Weather Service Huntsville office.
“A cold front moving through the area will promote two rounds of severe weather,” the forecasters said. “Ahead of the front, scattered storms will move through this afternoon to late this evening. Along the front, a broken line of storms will move through early Friday morning.
“Neither round currently looks better/worse than the other with both rounds posing a risk for damaging winds and hail.”
The office said while the forecast is for all of north Alabama and southern middle Tennessee, northwest Alabama has the best chances to see strong to severe storms with both rounds.
“Main hazards both rounds will be damaging winds and hail,” the office said. “The second line of storms will continue east after sunrise Friday morning.”
The storms are expected from 3 to 11 p.m. today and after midnight to 8 a.m. Friday.
