Prevent defense: RTX supports local education for future returns

HUNTSVILLE – Four years ago, aerospace and defense giant RTX donated $4 million to help build the Cummings Research Park campus of one of the nation’s most unique high schools.

Wednesday, the world’s largest industry company was back at the Alabama School for Cyber Technology and Engineering (ASCTE) with another donation, this one for $200,000.

RTX has been a longtime supporter of ASCTE and its mission to provide students with a rigorous and innovative education that will prepare them for the workforce of the future. The company’s latest donation will support the school’s engineering programs and educational initiatives.

“The future of aerospace and defense begins with our youngest generations, nurturing the endless curiosity that leads to lifelong learning,” Michael Cox, Huntsville Site Executive for RTX, said in a statement. “Solving the world’s toughest challenges demands bold innovation and investing in STEM education at schools like ASCTE ensures the next generation can meet the needs, anticipate the challenges, and capture the opportunities of our ever-evolving technologies and aerospace and defense environment.”

Matt Massey, president of ASCTE, expressed his gratitude for the generous donation.

“We are thrilled to receive this additional support from RTX,” he said. “Their continued investment in our school and our students is a testament to their commitment to STEM education and the future of our workforce.”

ASCTE is one of three public magnet high schools serving students throughout Alabama. It is also the only public high school in the nation to integrate cyber technology and engineering into all academic disciplines.

RTX has more than 185,000 global employees. Through industry-leading businesses – Collins Aerospace, Pratt & Whitney, and Raytheon – the company states it is “advancing aviation, engineering integrated defense systems for operational success, and developing next-generation technology solutions and manufacturing to help global customers address their most critical challenges.”

The company, with 2023 sales of $68.9 billion, is headquartered in Arlington, Va.
