As chief trial attorney in the Madison County District Attorney’s Office, Douthit brings more than a decade of experience prosecuting serious felony cases, a news release said.

Douthit said he wants to continue serving the community with fairness, integrity, and a deep respect for the rule of law.

“I have spent my career in the courtroom, handling the toughest cases and working to ensure justice is done for victims, families, and our community,” Douthit said. “As a district judge, I will bring that same commitment to fairness, preparation, and respect for the law to every case that comes before the court.”

He is a graduate of Covenant Christian Academy and received his BSBA from Troy University. He attended Cumberland School of Law at Samford University, where he distinguished himself as a member of Law Review and Moot Court.

After graduating from law school in 2010, Douthit began his legal career in private practice before entering public service as a prosecutor with the Mobile County District Attorney’s Office in 2011.

In 2016, Douthit returned to Huntsville to join the Madison County District Attorney’s Office, where he worked in the Crimes Against Children Unit. In addition to prosecuting cases involving child abuse, he took on a violent crime caseload that included capital murder, rape, home invasion, and armed robbery.

Douthit was appointed Chief Trial Attorney in 2019 where he oversaw felony prosecutions and trials while supervising more than two dozen attorneys.

Douthit and his wife, Joyce, have been married for 16 years and are raising four children in Huntsville. He is president of the Board of Directors of Covenant Christian Academy and a lifelong member of West Huntsville Baptist Church.

The Republican primary is May 19, 2026.
