Raise a glass: International wines make US debut at HCFC’s Wine Cup

HUNTSVILLE Instead of cheering for the Boys in Blue, fans will be toasting cheers with red and white at the inaugural Wine Cup next weekend at Wicks Family Field at Joe Davis Stadium.

Huntsville City FC is kicking off its three-event “Stadium Series” of beverage festivals with the Wine Cup on April 6 from 2-4:30 p.m.

The event will feature the U.S. debut of The Saltress Collection by Spier Wines of South Africa, which includes a Meritage, a Cabernet Sauvignon, and a Sauvignon Blanc in a tribute to the power of nature, resulting in wines that are vibrant and refreshing.

“We are thrilled to welcome Huntsvillians and wine enthusiasts from near and far to the Wicks Family Field at Joe Davis Stadium for one of many non-soccer events the stadium will be hosting this spring and summer,” said Chad Emerson, managing director of Business Operations for Huntsville City FC. “Bringing our community together to enjoy our stadium even when the Boys in Blue aren’t taking the pitch is something we look forward to doing all year long.”

There will be 100 wines, including the Saltress wines and Spier’s recently released Naledi wines, to taste with souvenir cups. Josh Couts’ Jazz Trio will provide entertainment, and visitors will be able to watch demonstrations from celebrity chefs Kev D and Brian Duffy.

“We are excited about our partnership with Spier in South Africa to give Alabama and Huntsville the unique opportunity to debut wines from an extraordinary region, halfway around the world,” said Stephanie Kennedy-Mell, Church Street Family Hospitality COO & CMO. “The Saltress & Naledi wines are not only a true expression of the South African terroir but of the Spier family’s commitment to excellence.”

Tickets to the Wine Cup can be purchased here. General admission tickets allow attendees to taste the wines and enjoy the live entertainment. Wine Cup goers can add the celebrity chef experience and wine centric food for an additional cost. VIP tickets include one extra hour of private access to the wine tasting, complementary food, and a full cash bar.

Next on tap is the Stadium Series Beer Cup, set for June 1 at 5 p.m. with the Spirits Cup chaser Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. Tickets for both events will be available soon.
