Recycling carts being delivered to Madison County customers

HUNTSVILLE — More than 1,900 new recycling carts are being delivered to residents of Huntsville and Madison County.

Since the RANA program launched, there have been continuous requests for carts from residents for new and second carts, Huntsville’s Solid Waste Disposal Authority said in a news release.

“Some of the new carts are going to residents who have requested a second cart, and others are being delivered to residents new to the RANA program,” SWDA Executive Director Doc Holladay said.

After these new carts are delivered, the number of RANA recycling carts will exceed 98,000, which is up from the 50,007 carts initially deployed in 2019, SWDA said.

Pandemic-affected manufacturing issues that plagued just about every industry in the country delayed the carts being delivered to the SWDA.

“We would like to thank residents for their patience while we were waiting on the arrival of the carts,” Holladay said.

The pickup service was also affected by absent workers and vehicle maintenance issues due to parts being hard to come by.

Single family homes within Madison County, as well as Huntsville and Madison residents in Limestone County, are eligible to participate in the RANA program. This does not include residents of rural Limestone County, outside of the annexed areas of Huntsville or Madison.
