Off The Record: The latest rumors and rumblings in Alabama

Déjà vu at City Hall

Round two, anyone? Whispers say Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed might not be running unopposed much longer. Names floating as potential challengers: Barrett Gilbreath and Montgomery County Probate Judge JC Love. Nothing official yet, but if either jumps in, it wouldn’t be their first rodeo against Reed.

Athens Water Dept.’s top brass shown the door?

We’re hearing Athens Water Department’s top three just got shown the door — and not gently. Allegedly, no retirement, no nothing. Whatever happened, it wasn’t a “thanks for your service” kind of exit.

John Wahl gets married, Anabaptist-style

Republican Lt. Gov. nominee John Wahl and his new bride kept it old-school for their Huntsville wedding. The ceremony was Anabaptist-style, complete with traditional caps, and the reception featured neither music nor dancing in keeping with their faith. Reserved, devout and very on-brand. We’re told it was an absolutely beautiful celebration. Congrats, John!

Tuberville, Moore blast Fauci — again

Alabama isn’t done with Fauci. Tuberville wants him locked up before he even leaves Capitol Hill, saying he should be arrested, tried, and held accountable for the 20,000-30,000 Alabamians lost to COVID. Barry Moore piled on too, saying if Fauci has nothing to hide, he should just tell the truth instead of dodging accountability. Bottom line: “I followed the science” still isn’t landing well down here.
