Rematch on the River: Huntsville FC seeks first win against Chattanooga FC

HUNTSVILLE — It will happen sooner or later.

The Huntsville City Football Club will win again. The Boys in Blue, and their large following, no doubt hope it happens before the calendar turns to May.

Huntsville City FC will take on Chattanooga FC, a newcomer in MLS NEXT Pro, at Wicks Family Field at Joe Davis Stadium at 7 p.m. Saturday in a rematch of the season opener that ended in a draw.

Huntsville City has two losses and three draws this season and is coming off a 1-1 draw with Crown Legacy FC at home last Saturday. Chattanooga defeated Inter Miami II 6-2. While the league is developmental, the Boys in Blue play to win.

“(Chattanooga FC is) obviously a very experienced team,” Huntsville City interim head coach Christophe Berra said. “They’re a more mature team. When we played down there initially it was 2-2 and there could have been some more goals either side then.

“So yeah, we know it’s gonna be a really tough game and they’ve come off a really good win against Miami 6-2, so we know the task at hand.”

Huntsville City added a player this week — 19-year-old midfielder Faiz Opande from Kenya. Berra said he will see playing time soon, possibly against Chattanooga. He represented Kenya in the 2020 CECAFA U17 championship and is a member of the country’s U20 squad.

Professionally, he played with Elite Falcons FC in the United Arab Emirates’ FKF Division Two, where he appeared seven times and helped the club earn promotion to Division One.
