North Alabama residents will have an opportunity to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary with a free patriotic concert at Wicks Family Field at Joe Davis Stadium on July 2.

The event, titled “Rocket City Celebrates America 250,” is being organized by the Alabama Society Daughters of the American Revolution in partnership with the Hunt’s Spring Chapter, NSDAR, the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library and Wicks Family Field at Joe Davis Stadium.

The celebration will feature a performance by the 151st Alabama Army National Guard Band and include remarks from community and military leaders recognizing the nation’s semiquincentennial.

Organizers said the event is designed to bring the Huntsville community together to celebrate American history, heritage and service.

“This concert is a celebration of 250 years of American freedom and the men and women who have defended it,” said Malinda Williams, State Regent of the Alabama Society DAR. “We are proud to collaborate with the Alabama Army National Guard and Team Redstone to honor their service and bring this milestone moment to every family in Huntsville and Madison County.”

The event is being supported by Huntsville’s military community, including Team Redstone.

Connie Chow, executive director of the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library, said the celebration provides an opportunity for the community to gather and reflect on the nation’s history.

“We are honored to partner with the Alabama Society DAR and other local organizations for this historic celebration of America’s 250th anniversary,” Chow said. “This special event provides a wonderful opportunity for our community to gather together to enjoy a musical celebration of our nation’s history and heritage.”

In addition to the concert, guests will be able to visit displays from local military and veteran service organizations on the stadium concourse before the program and during intermission. Participating organizations will share information about veteran resources, military family services and other community programs.

Food and beverages will be available for purchase, and attendees may choose between field seating and traditional stadium seating. Families are encouraged to bring blankets for seating on the field.

Doors open at 4:30 p.m., with the concert scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public.
