Roots Group has opened a new $10 million manufacturing facility in south Huntsville, expanding its local workforce and adding production capacity for commercial street sweepers and electric vehicles.
The 74,000-square-foot facility sits on 17 acres at 336 Green Cove Road and will house Victory Sweepers, a division of Roots Multiclean Inc.
The company currently employs 31 people in Huntsville and plans to grow to approximately 75 employees over the next three years. At full capacity, the facility is expected to manufacture up to 200 commercial sweepers and support assembly of up to 1,000 electric vehicles annually.
“We didn’t just arrive in Huntsville today, we deepened a commitment we made nearly nine years ago,” Roots Group Vice Chairman Varun Karthikeyan said. “We started out of a rented facility down the road, learning this market and building relationships. Today, this 74,000-square-foot, $10-million facility is the result.”
Roots Group has operated in Huntsville since 2017, when Roots Multiclean began operating from a rented facility. Victory Sweepers manufactures street, road, parking and industrial sweeping equipment for the U.S. market.
The opening also included the world premiere of NAVEO, a new neighborhood electric vehicle from Roots Autotec Technology. The company said the low-speed electric vehicle is street-legal and designed for on-road use in the U.S. market.
Mayor Tommy Battle said the expansion adds to growing manufacturing activity in south Huntsville.
“Roots Multiclean’s investment in this new facility is another great example of the momentum we’re seeing in south Huntsville,” Battle said. “It’s exciting to see more new investment, manufacturing capacity and good-paying jobs in this corridor.”
Madison County Commission Chairman Rex Vaughn said the facility will allow the company to expand beyond its existing manufacturing operations.
“This new facility will expand their manufacturing capabilities from street sweepers to new recreational use vehicles,” Vaughn said. “We are excited about the additional jobs that will come with this expansion.”
Roots Group employs more than 4,500 people worldwide and manufactures cleaning equipment, automotive components and products for the medical, semiconductor, commercial furniture and aerospace industries. The company has also expanded into electric mobility.
