HUNTSVILLE — It’s a good time to batten down hatches and anchor anything that may fly away – outdoor furniture, umbrellas, and the like.
The National Weather Service Huntsville office is forecasting strong to storms across the region Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday night.
The office said the storms are likely to impact all of North Alabama and southern middle Tennessee from 4 p.m. to midnight Tuesday.
A few supercell thunderstorms could develop during the late afternoon, the weather service said. A more intense line of storms with embedded supercells will move through the area Tuesday evening, with possible localized strong damaging winds (70-plus mph) and tornadoes.
“Thunderstorms and squall lines can quickly turn clear skies dark,” the forecast office said. “Stay weather-ready by having a way to get weather alerts on your phone, and stay safe by immediately going inside when the skies turn threatening.”
The damaging winds may blow down a few trees and powerlines with possible damage to vehicles and buildings.
