Shutdown, staffing shortage prompt more gate closings at Redstone Arsenal

HUNTSVILLE — Due to an ongoing staffing issue compounded with the government shutdown, the hours at three gates at Redstione Arsenal are changing next week.

Starting Tuesday, Gates 1 (Martin Road east) and 7 (Martin Road west) will close to inbound traffic at 1:30 p.m. They will be open for outbound traffic only from 1:30-9 p.m.

Also, starting Tuesday, commercial vehicle traffic must use the far right lane of Gate 9 (Rideout Road) after 1 p.m. daily.

In August, Arsenal officials cited federal funding cuts and hiring freezes in changing the operational hours of Gate 3 (Redstone Road). The gate on Redstone Road in south Huntsville will close at 1 p.m. daily to accommodate reductions in resources and manning.

However, this adjustment will not affect inbound traffic during peak morning hours of 5:30-9 a.m.
