Shoals residents can receive same-day surgical care at Singing River Surgery Center, which offers procedures ranging from orthopedic surgery to eye care.

The center opened July 6 on the Helen Keller Hospital campus in Tuscumbia, its partners said. A joint venture of Helen Keller Hospital, SCA Health and local physician owners, it held a ribbon-cutting Oct. 28, giving community leaders and guests an opportunity to see the facility and learn about its services.

Patients can undergo procedures that do not require an overnight stay. Specialties include orthopedics, ear, nose and throat care, ophthalmology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, and pain management.

The partners said Singing River Surgery Center is the only outpatient facility in the Shoals offering robotic-assisted joint replacement.

“The opening of this multispecialty surgery center is an important milestone for our community,” said Dr. Jonathan Wright, medical director of Singing River Surgery Center and an orthopedic surgeon with North Alabama Bone & Joint Clinic. “From advanced total joint replacement to a wide range of outpatient procedures, the center allows us to provide specialized surgical care in an environment built around efficiency, convenience and patient safety.”

Helen Keller Hospital is part of the nonprofit Huntsville Hospital Health System. The partnership combines the hospital’s local health care resources, SCA Health’s outpatient surgery operations and local physician ownership.

“This partnership is about strengthening healthcare in the Shoals and offering specialized services in an outpatient setting to the patients and families we serve,” said Jeremy Gray, president of Helen Keller and Red Bay Hospitals. “By working together with local physicians and SCA Health, we are building on our longstanding commitment to this community and investing in its future.”

Helen Keller Hospital is a 185-bed acute care hospital in Sheffield that has served the Shoals and surrounding communities for more than a century. Its inpatient and outpatient services include emergency care, surgery, women’s and children’s care, and specialty care.

SCA Health is a national surgical and practice management company serving more than 2 million patients annually at more than 370 clinical locations and 250 physician practice clinics.

Singing River Surgery Center is at 301 E. Hobson St. in Tuscumbia.
