ATHENS – Every child deserves a bed of their own — and Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) is working to make that a reality for families across Limestone County.

Last week, the Limestone County Chamber of Commerce welcomed SHP Limestone as a new member and hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the chapter’s Houston Street location. Chapter President Bill Dunnavant shared the nonprofit’s mission: building and delivering beds to children in need.

In just the past year, SHP Limestone has built more than 200 beds, with 190 already delivered to local children. That effort has been powered by more than 400 volunteers who stepped up to help assemble and distribute beds across the county.

The celebration also coincided with United Way Athens-Limestone’s Week of Caring, adding to the spirit of service. Chamber ambassadors, elected officials, and community partners joined the event, highlighting how local collaboration fuels the chapter’s success.

From construction days to delivery moments, SHP Limestone embodies community in action—proving that something as simple as a good night’s sleep can make a lasting difference in a child’s life. As the organization’s guiding slogan says, “No kid sleeps on the floor in our town.”

Since its founding in 2012, Sleep in Heavenly Peace has expanded to more than 300 chapters nationwide, delivering over 200,000 beds to children across the United States. The Limestone County chapter is now part of that movement, ensuring that kids here at home don’t have to sleep on the floor.
