Twenty-five years after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, the Madison community will gather at Toyota Field on Friday to remember those who lost their lives with a climb representing the 110 stories of the World Trade Center.

The annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb will follow a joint remembrance ceremony conducted by the Madison Fire Department and Madison Police Department Honor Guard.

Gates open at 8 a.m. Friday, with the ceremony beginning at 8:30 a.m. on the Toyota Field infield. The stair climb will begin immediately afterward, at approximately 9 a.m.

Participants will climb the equivalent of 110 stories in remembrance of the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. The climb is free and open to the public.

This year’s observance carries additional significance as communities across the country mark the 25th anniversary of the attacks.

The remembrance is also the beginning of a weekend honoring service and sacrifice at Toyota Field.

On Saturday, the USA Patriots Amputee Softball Team will face AUSA Redstone-Huntsville at 6:35 p.m., to benefit the USA Patriots Kids Camp.

Formerly known as the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team, USA Patriots brings veteran amputees together through competitive softball and other athletic programs. Its Kids Camp is a free, weeklong program for children with limb differences that combines adaptive sports, mentorship and confidence-building activities.

Saturday’s game is organized by the Young Professionals of the Association of the United States Army’s Redstone-Huntsville Chapter. Fans will also have opportunities to win game jerseys through a raffle and auction.

Tickets for the softball game are $10.

For Friday’s remembrance ceremony, seating will be available in the Toyota Field stands.
