HUNTSVILLE — It’s a winter wonderland in north Alabama.
And the resulting wintry precipitation brought about closings, remote working and delayed openings across the Tennessee Valley for businesses, schools and government offices.
And with the snow and upcoming bitter cold, the Tennessee Valley is under a couple of advisories from the National Weather Service.
We are in a Winter Weather Advisory until 11 a.m. today. The NWS Huntsville office said the light wintry mix of rain, sleet and/or snow will continue into the morning hours. Snowfall amounts up to an inch remain possible this morning.
However, it won’t last. Most areas should see melting of any wintry precipitation during the day. High elevation areas and shaded spots may have some lingering impacts from the wintry weather.
The NWS also issued a Cold Weather Advisory through noon Thursday. Bitterly cold air will spread into the Tennessee Valley tonight. This will result in wind chill values falling to near or slightly below zero Thursday morning.
Single digit wind chills are again expected late Thursday night into Friday morning and another Cold Weather Advisory may be needed during this time, the NWS Huntsville office said. Temperatures may not climb above freezing until Friday.
