One of the region’s premier collegiate sporting events is set to return later this month as the Southern States Athletic Conference Softball Championship comes back to Decatur beginning April 30.

The 2026 championship, presented by Buffalo Wild Wings, is expected to draw more than 500 out-of-town visitors to the River City, providing both high-level competition and an economic boost for the area. The event is hosted by Decatur Morgan County Tourism.

The tournament will feature a double-elimination format, with teams competing for the conference title and an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship. Among the programs expected to compete are William Carey Crusaders, Mobile Rams, UT Southern Firehawks and Faulkner Eagles, all of which have been ranked in the NAIA Top 25 this season.

“This championship continues to showcase some of the best collegiate softball in the country while delivering a strong economic and community impact for Decatur,” organizers said. “We’re excited to welcome athletes, coaches, and fans back for another exciting year.”

The SSAC Softball Championship has been held annually since 2000 and has called Decatur home since 2017, growing steadily in both competition and attendance.

Games are open to the public, with single-day tickets priced at $15 for adults and $7.50 for youth ages 11 to 17 and college students with valid ID. Children 10 and under are admitted free, and an all-tournament pass is available for $36. Tickets can be purchased in advance online or at the gate.

Organizers say fans can expect a family-friendly atmosphere with concessions, official merchandise and a full slate of games each day. The event is also dog-friendly, with leashed pets allowed.

With championship stakes on the line, each game carries added intensity as teams compete for a spot on the national stage, continuing a tradition that has become a staple on Decatur’s spring sports calendar.
