HUNTSVILLE — Thousands of people woke up this morning without electricity as a storm system with strong winds and heavy rains moved through the area.

As of 8:40 a.m., there were 1,465 customers without power, Huntsville Utilities said.
There were four utility poles confirmed down, as well as two additional poles damaged but not fallen. Huntsville Utilities said its crews were working to restore the power.
Huntsville Utilities said the first outages were reported just before midnight Monday and at its peak, there were 3,727 customers without power.
Joe Wheeler Electric Co-op, which serves Morgan and Lawrence counties, reported several hundred outages scattered throughout its area.
A cold front is pushing the storms through today and a changeover to some light wintry precipitation is possible tonight, the National Weather Service said. However, no accumulation is expected because the ground temperatures are too warm.
Overnight tonight, temperatures will drop into the upper 20s to lower 30s.
