Storms likely throughout the day; flooding possible

HUNTSVILLE — “It has been quite the active morning!”

The National Weather Service’s Huntsville office couldn’t have put it any better. In fact, those are the first words on a statement from the local office.

Most of us were awakened by thunder and lightning in the pre-dawn hours and that is likely to continue, at least through the day, according to the office.

“We’re expecting showers and storms to continue, especially over Limestone and Madison counties down into Marshall and Dekalb counties through mid-morning,” the forecasters said. “While some gusty winds are possible in the stronger storms, we are growing increasingly concerned about flooding and flash flooding from the heavy rain due to training storms and runoff.
“Continued storm activity could result in additional flooding of flood prone areas and isolated flash flooding this morning and later today.”
The office said a complex of storms is forecast to move into the area this afternoon which could bring the potential for damaging winds, heavy rain, frequent lightning, and hail.
