Strong winds leading storms across valley this weekend

HUNTSVILLE — The weather outside may not be frightful, nor will it be delightful this final weekend of 2024.

Gusty winds of 25-35 mph with multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms will move west to east across North Alabama today through Sunday, according to the National Weather Service Huntsville office. Between two and four inches of rainfall is forecast, with a few locally higher amounts possible.

The NWS said thunderstorms will increase in coverage during the afternoon and evening Saturday. The office’s confidence in flash flooding is still low due to ongoing drought conditions.

Howeever, the NWS said, a concern would be water ponding in low-lying and/or poor drainage areas in locations that receive the heaviest rainfall.
