Strong to severe storms possible late tonight

HUNTSVILLE — It’s looking like a rough start to the weekend for the Tennessee Valley.

The National Weather Service’s Huntsville office is calling for strong to severe storms moving into the region tonight around 10 o’clock and proceeding east.

“A cold front will approach northwest Alabama late tonight,” the office said Friday morning. “An attendant line of strong to severe storms will move ahead of the front and cross into the area late this evening.

“The line of storms will continue to move eastward across the area into early Saturday.”

The office said a “threat for strong to severe storms remains in place late tonight especially along and west of I-65.”

Locally heavy rainfall is also possible late tonight. But, the office said, the flooding threat may be more offset because of the fast-moving line of the storms.

In addition, non-thunderstorm winds may gust around 30-35 mph at times late tonight into
Saturday, the weather service said.

Temperatures are expected to be mild through the weekend with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s in the overnight/early morning hours.
