SWAC first-teamers Wilson, Walker leading No. 3 seed Alabama A&M into conference tournament

NORMAL — Alabama A&M’s dynamic duo of Alisha Wilson and Kalia Walker have been named to the Southwestern Athletic Conference women’s basketball first team, the conference office announced.

They will hit the court this week as the No. 3 seed Bulldogs face 6-seed Alcorn State in the SWAC women’s basketball tournament in Atlanta.

A&M (21-9, 14-4 SWAC) received the third seed after their win Saturday night at No. 1 seed Southern in the regular season finale. As a top four team, the Bulldogs received a first-round bye and take on the Braves at 11 a.m. Thursday. The game will be live streamed via ESPN+.

Walker averaged 15 points a game and led A&M with 49 three-point shots. A senior from Alexander, Ark., she was a four-time SWAC Player of the Week. Her 30-point outing against the University of North Alabama was the highest for a SWAC player this season. Walker scored her 1,000th career point against Florida A&M.

Wilson, the preseason Defensive Player of the Year, recorded her 1,000th career point and 1,000th career rebound this season, as well as her 50th career double-double. She picked up six double-doubles in a row and led the Bulldogs in rebounds in 23 of the 30 games she played. She won SWAC Impact Player of the week three times this season.
