Synesthesia – A musical wine pairing from The Electric Belle and UAH Department of Music

The Electric Belle, Stovehouse’s latest entertainment experience, in partnership with the University of Alabama Department of Music, presents a musical wine pairing Thursday, April 7.

Does flavor have a sound? Does flavor have music? Does music have a flavor? What happens when you crossfire these stimuli? These are the questions Jeremy Concepcion was asking himself when he dreamed up Synesthesia, a wine pairing with music.

Concepcion says each of the six French wines he has chosen tells a story with the accompanying French musical pieces.

“We talk about how we have matched the characteristics of the wine to characteristics of the music and how they interplay during the show,” he outlines.

Working with two renowned musicians, harpist Dr. Sarah K. Crocker and UAH Adjunct Instructor of Flute Madeline Cawley, Concepcion says together they have tailored the wine to the music.

How will Concepcion’s theory of music and flavor play out? He says their recent dress rehearsal already provided proof of concept.

“We had goosebumps,” he states.

Tickets for Synesthesia on Thursday, April 7, are $50 and includes music, wine, gratuity, and tax. The event is ages 21 and up. Doors open at 6:30 while show runs 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
