HUNTSVILLE – After flying with the eagles and birds, the local Army Aviation Association is hoping to score eagles and birdies at the annual Tennessee Valley Chapter of the Army Aviation Association of America golf tournament.

The tournament, to benefit the AAAA – Tennessee Valley Chapter Scholarship Fund, is set to tee off Friday at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course at Hampton Cove. Tee time is 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.

Retired CW5 Chadwick Ford, vice president of operations for the organization, said the chapter works to bring commercial and government Army Aviation entities together, supporting not only individual Soldiers but also our community.

“The Tennessee Valley Chapter of AAAA is steadfast in our support of the soldiers and Department of the Army civilians in the Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, and North Alabama region while also strengthening our community ties with events like the upcoming golf tournament,” said Ford.

“We have filled both 18-hole courses at RTJ with 240 players. There will be a Hole in One contest and other competitions with great prizes and a number of giveaways as well as place prizes for first, second, third and fourth.”

Ford said the chapter is proud to be able to support students with the scholarship fund.

“We are thrilled with the impact of the AAAA – Tennessee Valley Chapter Scholarships for students,” he said. “These are hard-working students taking their next big steps.”

The AAAA scholarships are merit-based and range from $1,000 to $12,000. Applicants are judged on academic achievement, leadership, volunteer service, work experience and essay responses.

Ford said the slots for this year’s tournament are filled but sponsorships for the event are still available.

“We want to thank all our sponsors for supporting this event, especially our new non industry sponsors Tito’s, Twin Peaks, Jack Daniel’s for stepping up and supporting the work we are doing in the region,” he said.
